Today, nations are focusing on strategies aimed at prevention and healthcare management as a means of coping with rising healthcare costs. For someone with diabetes, good healthcare management is imperative, though not always the easiest with today’s hectic lifestyle. ‘Smart Touch’ is a blood glucose monitor designed as a casing for the smartphone and using the smartphone’s camera to scan and analyse a glucose blood test. The social enterprise behind ‘Smart Touch’ is Care Trade, an economically sustainable system, which encourages better healthcare management by transforming the act of self-care into aid for another human being in need. Every time ‘Smart Touch’ is used, money is generated and sent to a diabetic in a developing country, where supplies are low.
