Mounted photographic prints
Over millennia, there have been many currency systems that offer a viable alternative to the dominant national legal tender. The very act of instituting an alternative currency is a healthy challenge to the prevailing financial hegemony.
Alternative currencies commonly emerge during moments of social turmoil, where communities are forced to use their creativity to redefine ideas of value and trust, and their design skills to create new visual expressions of currency, some of which do not even resemble traditional bank notes.
I believe in the transformative potential of graphic design as it moves beyond its traditional role as the servant of consumerism to become a new political and economic force.
